AL permission for rally refused: RO asked not to send to EC

The Awami League sent a letter to the office of Divisional Commissioner seeking permission to hold a rally on December 10, marking the International Human Rights Day.

The Returning Officer referred the letter to the Election Commission (EC). Later, the EC refused giving permission.

The EC has said that the returning officer himself has the power, the constitutional institution has requested not to send such matters to the EC in future.

A letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Atiyar Rahman was sent to Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer in this regard on Wednesday.
