JS Diagnostic sealed off for administering anesthesia without approval

JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Centre is being sealed off.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has sealed off the JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Centre in the capital’s Malibagh over the death of a student of Motijheel Ideal School and College during his circumcision at the diagnostic centre.

According to the DGHS, the hospital had no approval to administer anesthesia. It has approval only for diagnostic center. They were running it illegally.

DGHS Director (Hospitals and Clinics) Dr Abu Hussain Md Moinul Ahsan disclosed the information while talking to reporters after visiting the diagnostic centre on Wednesday (February 21).

Earlier, 10-year-old Ahnaf Tahmin Ayham died last night after he was administered general anesthesia during a circumcision procedure at the JS Diagnostic and Medical Checkup Centre in the capital’s Malibagh. The victim was a class-four student of Motijheel Ideal School and College.

Ayham’s father Fakhrul Islam filed a case mentioning the names of three doctors and five other unnamed persons.

Following the filing of case, police arrested two doctors, SM Muktadir and Mahbub, of JS Hospital and Medical Checkup Centre (JSHMCC).

It was learnt that doctors took the boy to the operation theatre of the hospital around 8:00pm. He was given general anesthesia but he no longer regained consciousness. An hour later, the hospital authorities declared him dead.

Earlier on January 8, a five-year-old child, Ayaan died during a circumcision procedure at United Medical College Hospital on Badda Madani Avenue.
