Bangladeshis spent $5b yearly for healthcare abroad

Bangladeshi patients spent about 5 billion US dollar going abroad for health care every year, according to Planetary Health Academia (PHA).

Planetary Health Academia (PHA) Trustee Dr. Bashar M. Atikuzzaman revealed the information in a summit on Sunday (February 25).

He said that our responsibilities are- developing technologies, training doctors, starting new service lines.

Atikuzzaman also said we are prioritizing healthcare services that are currently unavailable within the country, ensuring patients have access to essential medical care domestically.

PHA chairperson and trustee Dr. Tasbirul Islam said that such kind of conference has not been held in any South Asian country before. Before this conference we have conducted 16 courses in different health care institutions of Dhaka. We conducted these courses from February 18 to February 23. There will again be a two-day post-summit course on February 26 and 27.

Trustee of PHA, Dr. Nasser Khan said, we want to move forward with everyone. Many famous professors in Bangladesh are associated with us. We take every step with their advice.

More than two thousand expert doctors, researchers, educationists and medical students from home and abroad participated in this nine-day conference that began on Sunday (18 February).
