Power prices to go up by 34 paisa from March

Electricity prices are set to go up from the first week of March, said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.
The minister said this while addressing a press briefing at the secretariate on Tuesday (February 27).
He said that the electricity prices will go up by 34 paisa per unit, and may increase to 70 paisa for higher-level consumers in the future.
Nasrul Hamid said Tk43,000 crore subsidy is being paid to electricity sector. On the other hand, the government is subsidizing Tk6000 crore to gas sector.
The price of electricity is being increased due to the price hike of coal and the dollar, he added.
