People still afraid to go to police stations: President

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said the common people are still afraid to go to a police station, none wants to go to the police station unless absolutely forced.  

The President said this while addressing a function on ‘Police Week 2024’ at the Bangabhaban on Wednesday afternoon.  

He asked the members of Bangladesh Police to provide selfless services to the people being their faithful friends.

The head of state said, “People always believe that police will help them. You have to be more dedicated to earn public trust by providing services to the people.” 

He added, “The common people are still afraid to go to the police station, none wants to go to the police station unless absolutely forced.”  

The President suggested police to remove unnecessary fear or the fear of troubles from people's minds.  

Mohammed Shahabuddin advised the police force to be more dedicated to serve with sincerity and dedication the people who come to the police stations for legal assistance.  

He called for taking special care to ensure that no one is subjected to undue harassment in the name of routine street-checking.  

The President said, besides, due to the said extortion from various goods-carrying vehicles, the price of foodstuffs is increasing at the consumer level, intensifying the suffering to the people.  

He directed the police to be very vigilant about these activities and to take legal action against this vicious cycle, whoever involved in.  

Referring to the ongoing national services like 'Emergency Service 999, Online Police Clearance, Online GD' etc, the President said the police should be more diligent in increasing the scope of information technology services in days to come. 
The Bangladesh Police would play an important role to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ envisioned by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 'Smart Bangladesh' designed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and above all in the implementation  of 'Delta Plan-2100'. 

He said the proper implementation of the law is one of the prerequisites of good governance for the development and progress of the democratic state system in the country. 

Referring to professionalism and success of the Bangladesh Police (male and female) in the United Nations peacekeeping mission, he said the policemen have to play a responsible role in the internal security of the country and the establishment of a safe society.  

Senior Secretary of Public Security Division Md Mostafizur Rahman, Secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and senior officials, mostly district SPs and above of Bangladesh Police were present there.
