Dhaka-Ctg highway under CCTV coverage to stop extortion

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said Dhaka-Chattogram highway has been brought under the surveillance of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras to stop collecting extortion on the highway.

He said all highways will be brought under CCTV coverage in future.

The home minister said this while briefing reporters after a programme at Bangladesh Police Staff College in the capital’s Mirpur on Saturday (March 23) morning.

Police will take action as per the existing law whenever they will see happening the incidents of extortion, Kamal said.

He said, “The prices of essentials are hiked in Dhaka due to the higher profits of the traders, instead of extortion. Police special drives are underway to protect extortion.”
