Potato price soars again

The retail price of potato hiked by Tk5 to Tk7 per kilogramme at Dhaka kitchen markets in just a week.

Visiting several kitchen markets of the capital Friday, potatoes were found being retailed at Tk40 to Tk42 per kg.

However, the price of onion has fall due to sufficient production and supply. Onions which cost Tk100 to Tk110 per kg just a week ago, are now selling at Tk 55 to Tk 60 per kg.

Vegetable vendors said that the prices of other commodities in the grocery market, except potatoes, have remained stable. Meanwhile, they expressed fear that the price of potatoes may increase further.

Meanwhile, brinjals are being sold at Tk60 per kg, while bitter gourd at Tk80, green papaw at Tk40, carrot at Tk40, green chilies at Tk100 per kg.

Abdur Rashid, a grocery shopkeeper said onion prices have come down due to good supply. However, the price of potatoes is on the rise.
