DMP boss for ending Pahela Baishakh programme before evening

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said foolproof security measures have been taken centring Pahela Baishakh celebrations.

There is no specific threat of an attack during Pahela Baishakh celebrations, he said.

He made the comments while talking to journalists after inspecting the security arrangements at Ramna Batamul on Saturday (April 13).

According to DMP commissioner’s instruction, no one will be allowed to enter Ramna Park after 5 pm to enjoy Pahela Baishakh celebrations. All programmes must be ended before evening.

The DMP commissioner said: “The New Year’s event is the expression of the non-communal spirit of Bangali nation. That is why it has been targeted repeatedly by violent attacks and terrorism. Keeping those aspects in mind, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police have adopted a security plan. There are no specific threats at this time. But we hope for everyone’s cooperation, including that of the media.”

In the places where the event will be held, the security of the entire area will be monitored by CCTV. Apart from this, the surrounding areas will be monitored through watchtowers and drones. The Bomb Disposal Unit will be on standby as well.
