People start returning to Dhaka after Eid holidays

Holidaymakers started returning to the capital Dhaka using roads, rivers, and railways after celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr – one of the largest religious festivals for Muslims – in their native homes throughout the country.

Such picture came into notice after visiting Gulistan, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals in the capital on Sunday (April 14), the day of Pahela Baishakh.

Government employees, as well as many working in the private sector, had received a six-day holiday from April 9 to April 14.

People who arrived in Dhaka on buses said their return journey was smooth and hassle free. There was no suffering on Dhaka streets. They are coming to empty Dhaka without facing any difficult situation.

Speaking to risingbd, a number of bus counter officials say the onrush of returning city dwellers is increasing.

There was pressure of passengers at the Kamalapur railway station since early today.

Passengers, however, alleged that the bus companies are overcharging them, terming the price hike as Eid tip.
