1891 file nomination papers in first phase upazila polls

A total of 1891 candidates have submitted nomination papers for contesting in the first phase elections to be held on May 8 in 150 upazilas.

Election Commission Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath informed this to newsmen on Monday (April 15). 

April 15 (Monday) was the last day for submission of nomination papers.

A total of 696 aspirants submitted the nominations for the chairman positions, 724 for the vice chairman and 471 for the vice chairman reserved for the women.

The sixth upazila parishad polls in Bangladesh will be held in four phases.

The second phase of the elections will be held on May 21 in 61 upazilas around the country.

The commission is likely to hold the third phase election on May 29 and the fourth phase on June 5.
