Imposing VAT on metro rail a wrong decision, says Quader

Awami League general secretary also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the VAT imposed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on the metro rail is a wrong decision.

Obaidul Quader said this while addressing a seminar at the InterContinental Hotel in Dhaka on Sunday (May 19).

He said, “Is there VAT on metro rail in India? No, there is not. So why should we impose it? I have informed the prime minister, and she will consider the matter."

Obaidul Quader also said that the reputation of Metro Rail will be tarnished if VAT is imposed. I have raised the issue at a cabinet meeting and the prime minister assured of reconsidering the matter.
