Maldives bans recruitment of Bangladeshi workers again

Recruitment of unskilled workers from Bangladesh has been stopped due to illegal recruitment.

Quoting the home ministry of Maldives, local media reported this on Tuesday (May 21).

Ministry spokesperson Fatimath Rifath told local media that some companies hired workers by submitting fake documents. That’s why the recruitment of unskilled workers from Bangladesh declared stopped a month ago. An investigation is started in this regard.

The Island nation is facing illegal immigrant’ problem. As part of efforts to address the problem, the Ministry of Home Affairs has recently launched a special operation named 'Kurangi'. Following the drive, biometrics of more than 700 migrants have been collected.

Earlier, Maldives imposed a ban on recruiting unskilled workers from Bangladesh in September 2019 to solve the problem regarding illegal immigrants.
