Cyclone ‘Remal’ may hit Bangladesh Sunday

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm on Saturday (May 25).

The cyclone is named “Remal”. It could hit West Bengal or Bangladesh’s coast on Sunday evening (May 26). It could reach a wind speed of 102 kilometres per hour on that day.

In a bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) revealed the information on Thursday.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards and lay over west central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal.

Although the Indian Meteorological Department mentioned that the cyclone might strike the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh, various weather websites specifically indicate that it could move towards the coasts of Odisha, India, and Bangladesh.

Weather forecasting organizations ECAI and NCEP have indicated that Cyclone Remand will likely hit the coast of Odisha.

The cyclone may begin to make landfall between 5:30 pm on May 26 and 2:30 am on May 27.
