“No matter how influential the criminals are, they must be punished”

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the government does not protect anyone. We consider criminals as criminals. No matter how influential the criminals are, they must be punished.

The AL leader said this while addressing a press conference at Bangabandhu avenue in the Awami League office on Friday (May 24).

In reply to a question he said, “We must realize that no matter how influential a person is, they may commit a crime. The question is if the government is courageous enough to punish them [the perpetrators] for a crime. The Hasina government nurtures that courage. No one else can do it.”

Obaidul Quader also said, “The judiciary and the Anti-Corruption Commission are independent bodies. We can’t protect someone they find guilty. There is no question about protecting a former IGP or army chief.”
