Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), in its latest bulletin, asked the maritime ports of Payra and Mongla to keep hoisted great danger signal number no ten as cyclone Remal, a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal that intensified into a cyclonic storm, is expected to make landfall on Sunday night.

The Met Office asked to hoist danger signal 9 for Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong sea ports.

Coastal districts Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali and adjoining island and char areas will be under the purview of great danger signal number no ten.

It was centered at 6am on Sunday about 400 kms southwest of Chattogram port, 300 kms southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 330 kms south of Mongla port and 295 kms south of Payra port, according to the bulletin.

It may likely move northwards and intensify further.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54 kms of the deep depression centre is about 64 kph rising to 130 kph in gusts or squalls, the bulletin said.

The sea remains rough near the deep depression centre.
