There is a conflict between Myanmar Junta army and insurgent group Arakan Army in the Rakhine state for many days.

The shipping traffic on the St Martin route has been stopped due to the ongoing conflict and three instances of firing on ships on the route. As a result, the island's residents are facing a shortage of food and daily necessities.

In such a situation, the experts have suggested the construction of jetty on the coast to resolve the emergency problem.

According to the information of an intelligence agency in Bangladesh, about a decade ago, two sandpits were seen in the middle of the Bay of Bengal near the island of St. Martin.

Because of these two sandpits, passenger and cargo ships plying St. Martin at low tide would use a part of Myanmar in the sea.
Due to the coordination of Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) with Bangladesh's BGB, this movement has never been hindered before.

However, in the recent days, the Arakan Army has been taking advantage of the lack of coordination and they are firing targeting trawlers and ships bound for St. Martin in Bangladesh.
