Noor motorcade attacked in Nilphamari: 5 killed

District Correspondent, NILPHAMARI, Dec 15: Five people were killed and dozens injured as Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked a convoy of actor and member of the parliament (MP) Asaduzzaman Noor in Ramganj in the district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Krishak League leader Khurshid Alam Chowdhury, Jubo League leader Farhad Hossain, Chhatra League leader Murad Hossain, Awami League leader Lebu Mia and Jamaat leader Siddique Gazi. However, Asaduzzaman Noor was safe.

Besides, Noor`s car was vandalised and at least 20 people were injured in the clash.

Witnesses said the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir suddenly attacked the convoy of Asaduzzaman Noor at Ramganj Bazar around 5pm while he was returning to the district town from Lakshmichap Bazar.

Police fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the attackers. The Jamaat-Shibir men then locked into clash with the cops that left three dead and at least twenty injured.

 

The injured were admitted to Nilphamari sadar hospital.
