Bangladesh to be in Guinness Book with longest-ever flag

Staff Correspondent, Dhaka, Dec 15:  The longest-ever Bangladesh Flag is going to be made with cloth, which will be recorded in the Guinness Book Records.

The flag will be 1,000 meters in length and 600 meters in width. The sewing of the flag started on Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14 and it will be completed on the International Mother Language Day on February 21.

This longest-ever flag will be displayed on March 2 next year at Cox`s Bazar, the world`s longest sea beach.

This was revealed at a press conference held at Dhaka University Journalists Association office at TSC of Dhaka University on Saturday morning.

Dhaka University in cooperation with Bangladesh Army will make the ever-biggest flag of the world.

Member Secretary of the Longest National Flag Making Committee and foremr GS of DUCSU Mahtab Zaman said at the press conference that they have already contacted with the Guinness Book Records authorities. `They have already told us to submit all the information related to the Bangladesh`s national flag,` he said.

Mahtab Zaman also said the Dhaka University and Bangladesh Army would be assisted by Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Police, BGb, Ansar-VDP and 14 cultural organisations of Dhaka University.

The press conference was attended by designer of the national flag Shib Narayan Das, his wife Jayasri Das and Joydhani Cultural Organisation`s president and Jamuna Television`s senior reporter Nazmul Hasan.

It may be mentioned that private mobile phone operator Robi will make the ever-biggest Bangladesh Flag, in partnership with Bangladesh Army. The flag will be displayed at the National Parade Ground in the city on December 16, the country’s Victory Day.

Previously the largest human national flag was created in Pakistan, on October 21, 2012 with 24,200 participants attending the Punjab Youth Festival at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore.

A Guinness-accredited auditor will be present to oversee the attempt. After successful completion of the event all relevant documents and images will be sent to the Guinness World Record committee for validation.
