631 killed, over 19,000 injured during anti-discrimination movement

At least 631 people were killed and 19,200 injured during the students-led anti-discrimination movement. 

On Monday, the Ministry of Health disclosed a report on casualties from July 15 to August 5.

The Ministry of Health’s Management Information System Wing compiled the list of deaths and injuries during the violence. 

The information was compiled using information from public and private hospitals across the country. The list is being regularly updated.

According to the report, at least 450 people were brought to the hospitals while another 181 died while receiving treatment.

On August 15, the Ministry of Health formed a committee to list all those who were injured or killed during the protests.

Mohammad Humayun Kabir, former senior secretary of the Health Services Division, was the head of the committee. The committee submitted the report to the ministry on Thursday.

Citing the report, Kabir said more than 16,000 of those injured sought treatment at public hospitals, while at least 3,000 others sought treatment at private hospitals. Among them 3048 were admitted with seriously injury and 535 people became permanently disable.
