Addl SP Kafi placed on 5-day remand in Yamin murder case

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand to Abdullahil Kafi, the additional superintendent of police (Crime and Ops) in Dhaka district, in a case filed over the murder of Yamin in Savar.

The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Julhash Uddin granted the remand order after hearing in the case on Thursday (September 12).

Inspector of Savar Model Police Station Md Abdullah Biswas, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with a seven-day remand.

On September 2, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained Abdullahil Kafi from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

He was accused of killing and burning students and people’s bodies on August 5 in Ashulia.

Yamin’s father, Abdullah Al Kabir, filed a case against 49 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

According to the case statement, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, on July 18, police and Awami League men jointly attacked a peaceful march.

They reportedly dragged Yamin, shot him in the left side of his chest, and left him on top of a police armored vehicle while driving it to intimidate the protesting students.

It also mentioned that the police officers on duty then dragged Yamin, nearly dead, across the road and used the armored vehicle to scare the protesters.

Later, one police officer emerged from the vehicle and ordered a second round of shots to Yamin’s legs, believing him to be dead.

The officer then dragged Yamin from one side of the road to the other and left him by the roadside.

Yamin was later taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the doctors declared him dead.
