UN fact finding team to start investigation on Saturday

The UN fact-finding team will start their tasks on Saturday to probe the human rights violations that took place between July 1 and August 15.

This UN team has come to Bangladesh on the invitation of the interim government and the government will give them full support.

It is known that over 800 people were killed and thousands of people were injured during the July uprising.

Law enforcement forces and Awami League-backed forces have tortured ordinary people. Even, children in the house lost their lives in the firing. Around 50 members of law enforcing agencies were killed and various government and private institutions were burnt.

A senior official of the foreign ministry said if everything remains okay then they will begin their work on Saturday through a meeting with the foreign adviser or the foreign secretary.

The UN delegation will include a technical team, consisting of forensic, legal and other experts. This is the first experience for Bangladesh, so we have to act very carefully, the official added.

It is known that the UN team will conduct an impartial and independent investigation into the human rights violations committed between July 1 and August 15.
