Workers return to work in Savar, situation normal

Garment workers in the industrial areas of Savar and Ashulia have started working in the garment factories. No untoward situations have been reported yet.

The workers started to join their work station this morning (September 17).

Ashulia industrial police-1 officials said that there are 1,863 factories in the area. Of them, 1446 factories are functioning today. 19 factories remained shut due to many reasons.

Workers at some of the factories have been staging demonstrations for more than 15 days over different benefits and allowances, such as higher night allowances, tiffin bills, attendance bonuses and incentives for achieving production targets.

After four days of protest, the overall situation in Savar and Ashulia industrial areas started to return to normal.

Additional security personnel were deployed in the area to keep the situation normal.

Khairul Mamun Mintu, legal affairs secretary of the Bangladesh Garments and Sweaters Workers Trade Union Centre, said the environment here is calm today. Most of the factories are functioning. The overall the situation is good today.
