A Dhaka court placed former Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on a three-day remand in a case filed for shooting and killing a student named Imran Hasan during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shaheen Reza granted the remand order after hearing on Tuesday (September 17).
Earlier, Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Alam Mia of Jatrabari police station, also the investigating officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with a five-day remand prayer.
Nurul Islam’s lawyer applied for bail, seeking cancellation of the remand, which was opposed by the prosecution. After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
On Monday evening, Nurul Islam Sujan was taken into custody by the police from Room no 833 of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli, Dhaka.
During the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on the morning of August 5, Awami League leaders, activists, and police forces opened indiscriminate fire, leading to the shooting and death of Imran Hasan.
On September 1, the victim’s mother, Kohinoor Akhter, filed a case against 298 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Sujan.
