NID service should be kept with EC: EC Secretary

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Shafiul Azim has said the National Identity (NID) service programme is related to the voter list. NID cards are given as a part of the voter list programme. We have a database of it and it is very sensitive. So, it is more secure to keep it with the Election Commission.
The EC secretary said this while talking to journalists at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Tuesday.
If National Identity (NID) services are transferred from the Election Commission, it could lead to data breaches and other chaos.
Shafiul Azim has claimed that the decision to transfer NID services to another government agency was made without significant discussion with the Election Commission.
“The Election Commission has gained experience in this technical work over a long period. Now, if this database is handed over to another government agency mid-way, there could be breaches in data security, and chaos could arise”, he said.
