Everything is not done by law: Foreign Adviser

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said we do not know the official status of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in India. We officially told them nothing.

The adviser said this to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (September 17).

“Sheikh Hasina is staying in India for 45 days. Everything is not done by law. Many have been staying in the US for a long time. Did they finish everything in 45 days? The Indian government has given her asylum, she is there. We have to see it that way”, he said.

Md Touhid Hossain said the interim government would not interfere in the United Nations fact-finding mission’s investigation into human rights violation during the recent protests in Bangladesh.

“We want to ensure that they (UN team) can conduct their investigation independently. We will not interfere,” he told reporters.

The foreign adviser said that the UN team had a courtesy meeting with him, during which they conveyed their intention to begin their investigation in Bangladesh shortly.

Hossian said that Bangladesh government would offer support to the UN fact-finding mission if they sought.
