Ex-Kushtia MP George placed on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court on Wednesday (September 18) placed former member of parliament for Kushtia-4 Selim Altaf George on a three-day remand in a case filed over the murder of auto rickshaw driver Md Rony in the capital’s Mohammadpur area during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam granted the remand order after Sub-Inspector (SI) of Mohammadpur police station, also the investigating officer of the case, produced the accused before the court with ten-day remand prayer.
Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested former member of parliament for Kushtia-4 Selim Altaf George from the capital’s Lalmatia area on Tuesday night (September 17).
Barrister Salim Altaf George is also wanted in several murder cases in Kushtia and Dhaka.
Selim served as MP for Kushtia-4 (Khoksa-Kumarkhali) constituency from 2018. However, he could not secure the nomination from Awami League in 12th national parliament election.
