Staff Correspondent, DHAKA, Dec 18: Activists of Ganojagoron Mancha demanded a temporary break-up of diplomatic ties with Pakistan within 20 hours.
Mancha spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarker placed the demand while addressing a demonstration after they failed to siege the Pakistan High Commission on Wednesday afternoon.
“The government has to break off the diplomatic relationship with Pakistan temporarily within 20 hours and the police officials, who charged batons on our people, should be brought under punishment,” Imran said.
He also announced another programme of seizing Pakistan High Commission on Thursday if their demand would not met.
Earlier, Police have charged on activists of Ganojagoron Mancha while they brought out a procession and marched towards Pakistan High Commission in protest over resolutions adopted in its parliament over Quader Mollah execution.
Five police personnel and seven Mancha activists were injured as the protesters clashed with the law enforcers.
The clash ensued when the law enforcers stopped the protest procession of Ganajagaran Mancha in front of Australian High Commission, near Pak High Commission on road 83 in Gulshan 2 area.
Pakistan National Assembly, on Monday, adopted a resolution saying "This (Pakistani) House expresses deep concern on the hanging of a veteran politician of Jamaat-e- Islami Bangladesh for supporting Pakistan in 1971".
Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan lawmaker member Sher Akbar Khan moved the resolution to be adopted in major votes while their federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan earlier said Mollah was hanged "through a judicial murder for supporting a united Pakistan in 1971".
A day after the resolution, Bangladesh Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka Mir Afrasiab Qureshi and lodged a strong protest against the resolutions and the remarks made by a senior Cabinet Minister of Pakistan Government on the verdict of the war crimes tribunals in Bangladesh.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu also condemned the Pakistani resolutions and asked for its withdrawal and an apology for 1971.
