‘Chhatra League killed Fardin, used Bushra’

Three days after the disappearance, the naval police recovered the body of Fardin Nur Parash, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), from the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj on the night of November 7, 2022.

On the night of November 9, his father Nur Uddin Rana filed a case with the capital’s Rampura Police Station. The deceased’s girlfriend, university student Amatullah Bushra, and several unidentified people were named as accused in the case.

One month and five days later, on December 14, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) announced that Fardin had committed suicide. There was no involvement of Bushra in the incident.

Since then, Nur Uddin Rana was afraid of not getting justice for the murder of his son. However, he continued his effort. On February 6 last year, the DB submitted a final report seeking Bushra's acquittal. On April 16, the court granted the Nur Uddin Rana’s objection and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police to investigate the case further.

The latest date for submitting an investigation report in this case was set for October 9. However, the investigation agency of the case, the CID, could not submit the report on that day. Therefore, the court has fixed the next date for submitting the report on November 12.

About the murder case, the current investigation officer, CID Additional Superintendent Md. Sharafat Ullah, said, “The investigation of the case is ongoing. Police, DB and CID officials have already investigated the case. I was given the responsibly of the investigation three months ago. The date for submitting the investigation report is November 12. Many things have come up in the investigation. Those issues cannot be said now. The investigation of this case will be discussed in the court on the next scheduled date.”
