Amir Hossain Amu sent to jail after remand

A Dhaka court sent Amir Hossain Amu, a member of the Awami League advisory council and former minister, to jail after six-day remand in a case filed over the killing of businessman Abdul Wadud in Dhaka’s New Market area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday (November 12) morning, after rejecting his bail petition.

Earlier, the Investigation Officer of the case and also Inspector of the Detective Branch, Jahangir Arif, produced the accused before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars.

Though the defendant’s lawyer submitted a petition for bail, the court rejected it.

Earlier on November 7, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shaheen Reza placed Amir Hossain Amu on a six-day remand in the case after hearing a petition for a 10-day remand.

The veteran Awami League politician was arrested from Dhanmondi area in Dhaka on November 6. He has been accused in several cases.

Amu was elected Member of the Parliament from Jhalakati-2 constituency three times.
