Journalist Munni Saha has been released from the custody of the Detective Branch to her family.
She was handed over to her family on payment of a bond shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told risingbd: “Munni Saha is accused in four cases. She must appear in court to seek bail and comply with future police summons.”
“Munni Saha had a panic attack and fell ill. Considering her condition and that she is a female journalist, we released her under section 497 of the Criminal Procedure Code,” Mallick said.
Confirming her arrest, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon police station Md Mobarak Hossain said that Munni Saha was surrounded by some locals after she left her office at Janata Tower on Saturday night.
On information, a team of police detained her from the scene and brought her to the police station. At around 10:30pm, Munni Saha was taken from the police station to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road.
“Munni Saha was wanted in a case filed earlier. She was arrested after police rescued her from locals in the capital’s Kawran Bazar area,” the OC mentioned.
The murder case against Munni Saha, six other journalists and another 185 individuals was filed on July 22 over the death of student Nayeem Howlader in the capital’s Jatrabari on July 19 during the quota reform protests.
