Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam speaking at a programme
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used to control the country’s mass media during her rule of 15 years.
The Press Secretary made the blame while speaking at a discussion on ‘Media Reform Proposals: Citizens’ Thoughts’ at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Friday.
Hasina-led management had possessed the ability to control all the media in Bangladesh, he said, adding that a phone call from DGFI, NSI and ministers was enough to control the media.
“We feel urgency to ensure reform in the media to get rid of the situation,” he said.
He also called upon the newspaper owners to ensure logical wages for the journalists to help them perform their duties smoothly.
