The authority has decided to halt the special sale of goods including rice and edible oil under the Open Market Sale (OMS) program.

Finance adviser Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmed said this while addressing reporters at the secretariat on Tuesday (January 21).

He said that as you know, we launched the OMS on a very urgent basis. Special money has also been given for it. More than 8 lakh people in Dhaka, Chittagong and Narayanganj have received its coverage. For now, we have postponed it in December.

In reply to a question regarding the pressure of inflation, he said we don’t have any plan on this issue yet. Let’s see.

He also said that still the supply chain is under control of brokers.

Earlier, the government launched the special OMS through the Agriculture and Commerce Ministry on October 15. More than eight lakh people were benefited from the program.

Under the programme, per kilogram potato was sold at Taka 30, per dozen of egg Taka 130, per kilogram of onion Taka 70 and green vegetables were sold under different packages.
