Dania College student murder: 6 put on remand

A Dhaka court has granted a remand plea for six persons for various periods in the murder case of Dania College student Minhaz in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
As one of the accused in the case is a child, his remand hearing will be held in the children's court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq passed the order after the hearing on Wednesday (February 5).
The accused are Mahfuz Sarkar, Zahidul Bhuiyan Shawon, Sabbir Sarkar, Ashiq, Kawsar Mia, Shah Alam and Sohan Mia.
Mahfuz Sarkar has been granted a remand of 5 days and five others have been granted a remand of 3 days each.
According to the case documents, Minhaz, an honors final-year student of the college, engaged in an argument with Mahfuz and his cronies on January 26. As Minhaz went to the college on January 28, the accused started stabbing and hacking him indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he succumbed from his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Minhaz's brother Abdullah Al Mamun filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station against nine accused, and 10-12 unnamed others.
