Maximum punishment for those involved in attack on students: Home adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) said, “Those who are involved in the attack on students in Gazipur will face the maximum punishment.”

He said this while addressing reporters after visiting the injured at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday (February 8) morning.

The home affairs adviser said, “Various intelligence agencies, including the police, are working to identify those involved in the attack. Those who attacked the students will be brought to justice. Instructions have been given accordingly.”

Earlier, at least 20 students were injured after being attacked by locals when a mob allegedly vandalised the house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur.

The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Friday (February 7) in Dhirashram Dakshinkhan, Gazipur.

Local people said more than a hundred protesters, including students, stormed Mozammel Haque’s house, causing huge damage to the property.

During the attack, a mosque loudspeaker announcement alleged that robbers had entered the minister’s house, forcing locals to intervene. Upon hearing this, nearby residents cordoned off the house and locked into a clash with the attackers, beating several of them.

At least 20 students were critically injured and taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for treatment.
