3 cops put on 5-day remand in SI’s son murder case

A Dhaka court placed former Jatrabari Police Station OC Abul Hasan, former Assistant Police Commissioner Tanzil Ahmed and SI Shahadat Hossain on a five-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Imam Hasan Taim, a police officer’s son, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the capital’s Jatrabari area.

Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq passed the remand order on Monday (February 10) after police produced them before the court with 10-day remand prayer.

Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Farooqui conducted the hearing in favor of remand. No lawyer represented the accused in the court.

Taim’s mother Parveen Akhter filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shakil Ahmed on August 20.

The case was filed against Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of Wari Division Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, ADC of Wari Division Shakil Mohammad Shamim, AC Tanzil Ahmed, Jatrabari Police Station OC (Investigation) Zakir Hossain and SI Shahadat Ali, and some unidentified accused.

Taim, a second-year student of Narayanganj Government Adamji Nagar MW College and son of Rajarbagh Police Lines SI Md Moynal Hossain Bhuiyan, was killed in police firing during the student movement.
