Traffic flow normal as protesting teachers leave Shahbagh streets

The recommended primary school teachers and job seekers registered under the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) left the streets of Shahbagh after police threw tear gas towards them.

The protesting teachers left the streets around 3pm on Monday (February 10), resulting in the resumption of normal traffic flow.

Earlier, at around 1:30pm, the demonstrators had blocked the roads at Shahbagh and staged a sit-in programme for nearly two hours.

At this time, chase and counter chase took place at Shahbagh intersection, escalating tensions among police and protesters. At one stage, they engaged in repeated confrontations.

Despite police baton charges, the protesters repeatedly reorganized on the road.

Eyewitnesses said that law enforcement personnel used water cannons and detonated several sound grenades to disperse the crowd. Besides, multiple individuals were seen being detained during the clashes.
