The BNP has told the interim government to hold the national election as soon as possible.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this to newsmen after a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Mohammed Yunus on Monday.
A three-member delegation held a meeting with the chief adviser to discuss the country’s contemporary issues, including election.
“Chief Adviser Mohammed Yunus assured us that preparations are being taken to hold the national election by December this year,” he told the journalist.
However, he categorically informed the chief adviser that the BNP would not accept the local body election before the national one.
Salauddin Ahmen and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, both standing committee members of the party, were accompanying Mirza Fakhrul.
The meeting commenced after 6 pm on Monday (February 10) at Jamuna, official residence of the chief adviser.
