Election after quick reforms discussed: Fakhrul

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday joined a roundtable on reform proposals participated by representatives of political parties, National Consensus Building Commission and other stakeholders. 

The meeting was held at a hotel at Shahbagh in the city.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed participated in the roundtable.

When asked whether the UN Secretary-General had made any comments on the reforms, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The UN Secretary-General did not say anything about this, it is our internal matter.”

He told visiting the UN Secretary-General that holding the 13th parliamentary election after implementing quick reforms is crucial to overcoming the ongoing political crisis.

“We discussed key issues, including reforms, national consensus, and the upcoming national election” he said.
