World Bank (WB) has predicted that three million new people in Bangladesh could fall into poverty this year.
The World Bank expressed such concerns in the 'Bangladesh Development Update' report published on Wednesday (April 24).
According to the report, the weak labor market conditions will continue this year. The economic slowdown may have a greater impact on vulnerable populations.
In addition, the real income of the general public, especially those at risk of falling below the poverty line, may decrease.
It is expected to raise the country’s rate of extreme poverty from 7.7 percent in 2023 to 9.3 percent by the end of this year, said the report.
The World Bank estimated that the national poverty rate will grow from 20.5 per cent in 2024 to 22.9 per cent in 2025.
