Teachers and students of Jagannath University (JnU) will continue their movement until a specific announcement comes from the government.
General Secretary of JnU Teachers Samity Prof. Dr. Rois Uddin said this at a mass hunger strike of the students at the Kakrail intersection on Friday.
Prof. Rois Uddin said, “Every citizen of this country expects their rights. For three days, our students have been sitting in the open air for their demands. But no solution has come from the government yet. Even though it could have been resolved on the first day if they wanted”.
Teachers and former and current students of the university started the mass hunger strike at around 3:45pm.
On behalf of JnU Oikko, a platform of students, teachers, and other stakeholders of Jagannath University, Mahtab Limon, general secretary of the Jagannath University Journalists’ Association, made the announcement at 3:00pm.
The four demands of the students are the introduction of a housing allowance for 70 percent of students from the 2025-26 fiscal year until residential facilities are ensured, approval of JnU's proposed FY26 budget without cuts, approval of the construction of a second campus at the next ECNEC meeting as a priority project, and the punishment of police personnel who attacked students and teachers on Wednesday.
