Criticizing verdict is contempt of court: Ishraque

The court has ruled to declare Ishraque Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation in the 2020 election. Criticizing the verdict is the contempt of court. 

Ishraque Hossain made the remark at a press conference at the National Press Club on Saturday (May 17) evening.

He said, “The case was filed within 30 days of the election. Taposh tried to stop the case by exerting influence. At that time, the court was under the control of the Awami League. However, we got the verdict by following all legal steps. Therefore, those who are speaking against this court verdict are contempt of court.” 

He said, “The Law Adviser said that the gazette was published without taking their opinion. The file was on the table for his opinion. But the gazette was published within 10 working days as per the rules.” 

The BNP leader said that he was not sworn in even though 20 days had passed since the gazette was published, “We are fully ready to take the oath.”
