Shammo murder: Students lay siege on Shahbagh Police Station

A group of protesters are holding demonstration in front of Shahbagh Police Station again, demanding the arrest of those involved in the murder of Dhaka University (DU) student and Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo.

The protesters started the demonstration around 12 pm on Sunday (May 18), staging a sit-in in front of the police station.

During the demonstration, the protesting students chanted various slogans such as ‘action action direct action, direct action against Shahbagh Police Station’, ‘we will not let my brother’s blood go in vain,’ ‘my brother is in the grave, why is the murderer out?’ and ‘Shame Shame, Shahbagh Police Station.’

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Khalid Mansur told risingbd: “Dhaka University students are holding protests in front of the police station demanding justice for the murder of Shahriar Alam Shammo. The police are on alert.”

Earlier on Friday (May 16), the protesters besieged the police station for about an hour and a half, gave a 48-hour ultimatum for the arrest, and left. Their ultimatum ends today.
