Ishraque’s supporters continue protest 

Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain are holding demonstration for the sixth consecutive day demanding that Engineer Ishraque Hossain be officially sworn in as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). 

People from different areas of Dhaka started assembling after 11 am on Monday (May 19) in Gopal Shah Mazar area of Gulistan. Due to the increasing pressure of the people, traffic came to stop, creating huge sufferings to the people.

Huge number of policemen have been deployed in the area.

On Sunday, supporters of Ishraque staged a sit-in outside the DSCC headquarters.

On May 14, several hundreds of people staged demonstration in front of Nagar Bhaban under the banner of ‘Dhakabashi’ (residents of Dhaka), demanding that Ishraque be sworn in and given the responsibilities of the mayor. Since Thursday, non-stop programmes were announced to press home their demand. 

On March 27, the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Electoral Tribunal declared Ishraque Hossain, a BNP Foreign Affairs Committee member, as the rightful mayor of DSCC. Following the verdict, the Election Commission published a gazette notification.
