7th Bangladeshi conquers Mount Everest

Ikramul Hasan Shakil, a mountaineer reached the summit of Mount Everest on Monday (May 19), becoming the seventh Bangladeshi to conquer the world's highest peak.

Shakil's Nepali travel agency '8K Expeditions' said that a total of 15 mountaineers, including Shakil, climbed the summit of Everest at 6:30 am on May 19. They are healthy and planning to descend to Camp 2 today.

The special characteristic of Shakil's Everest journey was that he began the Everest journey on foot from Inani Beach in Cox's Bazar.

In 1990, Australian mountaineer Tim Macartney-Snape became the first person to walk from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest. Since then, this journey of walking from sea level to the summit of Everest has been called 'Sea to Summit.'

Earlier, six more Bangladeshis had reached the summit of Mount Everest. They are - Musa Ibrahim, MA Muhith, Nishat Majumder, Wasfia Nazreen, Khaled Hossain and Babar Ali.
