Dr Khalilur Rahman, national security adviser and chief adviser's high representative for the Rohingya issue, said Bangladesh has never discussed the proposed humanitarian corridor with any country or organization and has no intention of doing so.
The adviser said this while addressing a press conference at foreign service academy in the capital on Wednesday (May 21).
He said, "You have to understand the corridor system. A corridor is a system for evacuating people from disaster areas in an emergency. We are not evacuating anyone here."
Dr Khalilur Rahman also said that the humanitarian crisis in Rakhine State is escalating, prompting the United Nations and Bangladesh to consider providing humanitarian assistance. Since all other routes for aid delivery are currently ineffective due to the conflict, Bangladesh is now the only viable option. It was initially thought that the UN would arrange for aid distribution in Rakhine through its channels, and Bangladesh would provide logistical support to help deliver aid across the Myanmar border.
