Order on writ plea against Ishraque’s mayoral oath deferred

The High Court (HC) deferred its judgment to Thursday on the writ petition seeking suspension of the Election Commission's gazette notification that declared BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashis Roy Chowdhury passed the order on Wednesday (May 21).

Earlier on Tuesday, the court fixed today to announce the verdict after hearing the writ petition.

On 14 May, Supreme Court lawyer and Dhaka South resident Md Mamunur Rashid filed the writ plea, seeking to bar the swearing-in.
