BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has announced the suspension of movement for 48 hours.
He made this announcement after arriving in the protest site at Kakrail intersection on Thursday (May 22) afternoon.
He said, “The next decision will be taken after seeing the government’s steps.”
Ishraque said, “Considering the public interest and the ongoing situation, we are suspending the movement for 48 hours.
However, if the demands are not met within this period, a stricter program will be announced.”
"We respect the rule of law. We hope that the interim government will immediately implement the court decision without delaying even a single day,” he said.
Apologizing for the suffering caused by the movement, Ishraque said one day the people will understand why we waged the movement.
Earlier, the High Court issued an order saying that there is now no legal bar to Ishraque Hossain taking the oath as the Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
A bench comprising Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury delivered the verdict.
