Negative comment over HC: Legal notice served to Sarjis

A legal notice has been sent to National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Sarjis Alam, demanding an apology to the nation for his undesirable comments about the High Court in his Facebook status following the dismissal of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain’s writ petition regarding the swearing-in for the mayoral post.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Jasim Uddin sent the legal notice on Saturday (May 24) morning.

Earlier on May 22, the High Court bench of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury rejected the writ petition that sought to suspend the Election Commission gazette declaring Ishraque as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The HC verdict paved the way for BNP’s Ishraque Hossain to swear in as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.

After the HC verdict, Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer (Northern Region) of the NCP, posted a status on his verified Facebook account, making negative comments about the High Court.

In the notice, Sarjis Alam has been asked to apologize in written to the Registrar General of the Supreme Court. At the same time, he has been asked to hold a press conference within two hours of receiving the notice and publicly apologize. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against him, the lawyer said.
