Ultimatum to remove NBR chairman by May 29

Officials and employees have given an ultimatum to remove Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abdur Rahman Khan by May 29, 2025.

NBR Reform Unity Council gave the ultimatum at a press conference at the NBR Bhaban at Agargaon in the city on Monday.

Joint Commissioner of Taxes Monalisa Shahreen Sushmita, Deputy Commissioners Roisun Nesa, Shahadat Jamil Shawon and Shah Mohmamad Fazle Elahi, among others, were present at the press conference.

Deputy Commissioner Shahadat Jamil said, “From the beginning of the process of preparing the draft of the issued ordinance, the current chairman of the NBR has maintained secrecy and has been extremely uncooperative at every stage.

He has created various obstacles in informing the government about the hopes and aspirations of NBR officials regarding the future revenue structure.”

He said, “The current chairman of the NBR must be removed by May 29. As there is an extreme crisis of trust and confidence in him, the previously announced non-cooperation program will continue as usual in line with this demand.”

Deputy Commissioner Roisun Nesa said, "We promised the countrymen that if our demands are met, we will complete the pending work by working overtime outside the scheduled office hours. Accordingly, we are announcing that we will continue to work overtime outside the office hours for as many days as necessary."

Shah Mohammad Fazle Elahi said, “We don't want to go at the scheduled time. We will work as needed. We will need NBR's instructions to set additional time.”
