Bangladesh Ambassador to Russia ‘stand released’

Bangladesh has stand-released Faisal Ahmed, the Charge d'Affaires (CDA) in Russia following a controversial social media post and allegations of misconduct.

The ministry of foreign affairs issued a notification in this regard recently.

According to an official order from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Ahmed has been given a "stand release" from his duties at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow. He has been instructed to return to Dhaka without delay.

In his place, Counselor (Political) Md Niaz Morshed has been assigned to serve as the acting Charge d'Affaires at the Moscow mission. The reassignment was made effective on Tuesday (May 27).

Earlier, the interim government decided to appoint Bangladesh's ambassador to the United States, Asad Alam Siam, as the foreign secretary. Criticizing the government's decision, Acting Ambassador Faisal Ahmed made a Facebook post, breaching government policy.
